New Delaware laws effective beginning October 1st

Beginning October 1st, some laws passed this past legislative session will take effect in Delaware. One of the main bills going into effect is House bill 140.
The bill is aimed at raising money for infrastructure. $24 million dollars a year for critical upgrades that will make Delaware’s roads and bridges safer, and create about 1300 new construction jobs. That new funding will come from increases to several Department of Motor Vehicle fees that have gone largely unchanged since 1990.
As for next year’s legislative session, 47 ABC spoke with State Senator Bryant Richardson and he tells us a big focus will be in reducing the rate of Recidivism, or when someone who has been incarcerated goes back to prison for committing another crime.
He says lawmakers will look at what minor and non-violent crimes may not require jail time.
