Monday Memo – October 19, 2015
MONDAY MEMO
TO: ALL STAFF
FROM: KATHLEEN
DATE: 19 OCTOBER 2015
SHE’S A WINNER!
Brenda Meredith joins the Winners Wall on our website contest page as the first winner of our Fall Gas Card Give Away. Brenda and her family collect food for “Hope for the Hungry”, a food pantry supported by the Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene here in Salisbury. The gas card will come in very handy to help with their personal expenses in this critical charitable cause. We were so touched by their story that Emily reported on it in the 6PM newscast Friday night.
THE SALVATION ARMY
is gearing up for their Bell Ringing campaign. Our date for the event is Wednesday, 9 December, at the Fruitland WalMart from 9AM to 9PM. The sign-up sheet will be posted Tuesday on the downstairs bulletin board across from the time clock. Two people will be on each shift. I hope you can find an hour in your day to support this worthy cause.
UPDATE ON LOBBY RENOVATIONS:
- We have reviewed a considerable number of options for the walls of the Lobby and flooring in the main office area with the Lanes and are awaiting decisions.
- We have rfp’s out for painters and hand rail work
I appreciate your patience as we work to keep these projects moving ahead and minimizing disruptions of daily work flow.
MEET OUR NEWEST EMPLOYEE

Colin is a graduate of Cardinal O’Hara High School in Springfield, PA, and Pennsylvania State University, College of Communications. IT’S FLU SEASON AND THE FIRST CASE HAS BEEN CONFIRMED ON DELMARVA.
You can reduce your chances of coming down with the flu if you:
- Get a flu shot (thanks to those who did on Friday)
- Wash your hands often with soap and water
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
- Avoid or limit contact with people who are sick
- If you are the one who is sick, limit contact with others (do not come in and share with co-workers)
- Know the symptoms: fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.
COMICON AT THIRD FRIDAY ON THE PLAZA
Comicon was a huge hit Friday night! Special thanks to Greg LaFrance, Phil Comeaux, Rob Strobel and Anchor Emily Lampa (blonde and in costume, posing here with morning anchor Lenita Wesson and her daughter, Grace) for working at our table. The “Arrow” and “Flash” standees were popular for selfies as were our give-aways of “Flash” comic books from Brian Lane’s personal collection (thank you, Brian). To qualify to receive a comic book, all you had to do was to download the Buzzmark app. Easy enough! We also had superhero logo’d freebies courtesy of CW3 (“Flash” and “Arrow”) and ABC (“Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”). Thanks to all for making this a successful grass roots promotion.
TWO SEASONAL SPECIALS WILL BE ON 47 ABC THIS WEEK
- Tuesday at 8 will be “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown”
- Tuesday at 8:30 will be “Toy Story of Terror!”
THE DATE FOR THE STATIONS’ HOLIDAY PARTY HAS BEEN SET for Saturday, 5 December, 4-6PM at Sobos (same as last year). Details to follow.
A LOCAL POLITICAL FORUM, live from Salisbury University, will be aired on our stations Wednesday evening from 7-8:30PM and split between two stations:
- 7-8PM = on 47ABC (and)
- 8-8:30 = on Me-TV
This Forum will host the 14 candidates for local office, as they share their visions for our community. Ernie Colburn, CEO of the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce, will host the event.
WE LOST OUR OVER THE AIR SIGNAL Sunday morning at 7:20. Bill and Jeff came in and worked on it. By about 10AM it was narrowed down to something at the transmitter.
