Milford residents approve school district referendum

An operations referendum in the Milford School District has been approved.
The polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday evening with more than 1,600 people voting for the measure, and more than twelve- hundred opposing it.
47 ABC spoke with Milford school’s superintendent Phyllis Kohel on Tuesday. She says this referendum is critical to the future of their schools.
According to officials, the district has been operating in a deficit for about the last three years. They’ve apparently spent more than $1.2 million out of it’s required reserve.
Milford schools have made cuts to athletic programs, building. and operations costs just to name a few. With those cuts, they are still in a deficit.
The referendum will bring about $3 million dollars into the district. It will fill their $1.2 million hole and restore cuts that were made due to budget restrictions.
