Maryland AG Frosh announces push for handgun licensing laws nationwide

Maryland Attorney General Frosh announced Wednesday that he will be pushing for handgun licensing laws in Maryland to be adopted in other states. Frosh plans to reach out via letter to every attorney general in the U.S. to inform of the latest research done by John Hopkins that shows gun licensing laws saves lives. Ten states have handgun licensing laws, and one of them being Maryland.
Research done at Johns Hopkins shows Missouri as an example of a state where homicides related to handguns increased after gun licensing laws were repealed in 2007
In Connecticut, gun licensing laws began in 1995, and since then homicides related to handguns have decreased.
Frosh says he has seen a positive change in Maryland as well “526 people applied who were disqualified for either because they committed acts of violence, been convicted of crimes , or suffered from mental serious illness. So we know we have kept guns out of the hands of more than 500 people who shouldn’t have them.”
Frosh also said that he will be be supporting Congressman Chris Van Hollen on a bill that would provide grant money for states to develop these licensing systems.
