Locals react to the cancellation of Punkin Chunkin

A Punkin Chunkin Good Time

The 2015 World Championship Punkin Chunkin has been cancelled. Organizers say they were unable to find someone to adequately provide insurance backing.

For decades the event launched from a farm in Sussex County, until a Punkin Chunkin volunteer filed a lawsuit after being seriously injured in an ATV accident while working the 2011 event.

This is the second year in a row that the pumpkins failed to fly.

“It really disappointing as a local resident in Delaware you want there to be all different kinds of events,” says Brian Croll of Dover.

“It doesn’t seem fair for the people who built the machines and put all their time and energy half the year to have it canceled,” says William Allen of Dover.

Customers who purchased tickets will receive a full credit card refund within seven to fourteen business days.
