Habitat for Humanity applies for grant to help homeowners

Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County will be applying for the EMPOWER MD grant to help low income homeowners in Wicomico County make their home energy efficient and safer. Wicomico County homeowners can qualify for the Low Income Energy Efficiency Program where they will get energy conservation materials installed for free. This can range from adding Energy Star appliances,  improvements in heating and water systems, and adding insulation.

Molly Hilligoss, the  Executive Director for the Habitat for Humanity in Wicomico County says,”first you have to be a home owner and you to have Delmarva power as your energy provider. There is income limits so for an annual household that is less than 200% percent of the federal poverty level.”

The application period for homeowners begins Wednesday October 14th and ends October 31st. An information session will be held on Wednesday at 10 am at the United Way office of the Lower Eastern Shore. Once Habitat Humanity is approved for the grant funds they can begin projects in April 2016.
