Georgetown is going “Back to the Future”

Great Scott it’s 2015! The same year Marty McFly and Doc Brown visited in their time travels. To mark the occasion, Georgetown is traveling “back to the future.”

Karen Duffield, the executive director of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce says, “It is super, super exciting. You know, the 1.21 giga watt exciting.”

October 21st 2015 was the date Marty McFly and Doc Brown traveled to in their Delorean time machine from the year 1985.

Officials in Georgetown say it’s a date movie fans have been waiting for since the second film of the world famous trilogy came out. In response, they’ve decided to go big.

The mayor has signed a resolution to officially rename Georgetown “Hill Valley” for the day; it’s the name of the town in the movie. 16 Mile brewery has created a special futuristic beer. A Delorean time machine will be on site and a reenactment of the film’s iconic scene in front of the court house.

Duffield goes on, “The Lightning hitting the clock tower and energizing the flux capacitor in the time machine. (Hopefully) It will go off without a hitch despite not having a Stephen Spielberg as director.”

Officials hope the performance goes that way. There might be hiccups like in the movie. However, town leaders say it’s all about the show, which they’re hoping draws a big crowd which would be a boost for the local economy.

William West, mayor of Georgetown says, “This will have a great impact on the town of Georgetown.”

Duffield says, “We’re hoping people that come will go to our local restaurants afterwards and will enjoy a wonder back to the future meal.”

The festivities will kick off in “Hill Valley” Delaware at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. There will be a red carpet screening of Back to the Future part one at 6:30 p.m.
