Doctor says get flu shot sooner than later

According to the CDC, last year’s flu vaccine was only nineteen percent effective in preventing medical visits. However, health officials say this year’s vaccine should be much stronger.

It’s targeting a strain of the influenza A, or H3N2 virus that wasn’t covered in last years shot.

Dr. Victor Gong recommends everyone get the shot now, and not wait until people start getting sick to get it.

Dr. Gong continues, “It takes a few weeks for the antibiotic to develop so you might not get protected right away. Get the vaccine right away.”

Seasonal flu activity can begin as early as October and continue to occur as late as May.
