Delmarva Power working on lines post-flooding

Those in the Bethany Beach Monday may have experienced flickering lights, or minor power outages. The reason why, the power lines were getting cleaned.

Monday Delmarva Power resumed their power washing of utility lines along Rt. 1 to help get rid of harmful salt buildup that has accumulated over the past few days.

Normally rain water takes care of that, but since no rainfall is expected over the next couple of the days officials say the problem had to addressed before it got worse.

“The buildup of moisture can cause arcing, sparking, blown fuses and in extreme cases it could cause pole fires and extended power outages. So we had to get out there and wash the lines because there’s no immediate rain in the forecast,” said Matt Likovich, media relations manager for Delmarva Power.

If customers see downed wires, notice loud noises or electrical arcing,Delmarva Power is asking people to stay away from those utility lines and call the company.
