DelDot seeks feedback from public regarding Rt. 113 plan

A day after unveiling its plan to fix traffic in Millsboro, DelDot revealed details directly to residents.

About 320 people showed up to listen and give their input.

“It’s important for us to make sure that this is in fact what the public is interested in seeing.”, Said DelDot project manager Bryan Behrens.

The nearly $100-million project would add a third lane to Route 113, a Route 24 connector allowing drivers to avoid downtown Millsboro. It also includes bridges allowing cars to travel across 113 and various ponds.

Unlike its predecessor, the 2013 Blue Alternative Bypass Plan we’re told this project would have a small impact on nearby homes, and an even bigger one on sometimes congested roads.

Sussex County Councilman, Rob Arlett, says he believes in the plan, saying, “Route 113 and Route 24 are major roadways.” and, “They have to be placed a priority as it relates to the traffic and how we can get a really good flow on these roads.”

The plan is also encouraged by residents like Bob Ward of Millsboro who tells 47 ABC, “This bypass proposal is great.” and “In the summertime when the tourists are here after Memorial Day, this place just comes to a stand still.”

Others, like Jim Bennett of Frankford, say the plan seems all too familiar, resembling the 2013 plan that was shut down due to strong opposition from the public.

“I think they probably need to go back and look at everything again,”, Said Bennett, “Basically they’re trying to bring up the old plan to make it a new plan and it’s still the same old plan.”
