Crash involving a scooter closes traffic in Long Neck

Members of the Delaware State Police say traffic along Route 24 was closed off for more than two hours Wednesday night, as troopers investigated a serious crash involving a scooter.
Authorities say around 5:24 p.m. Wednesday, Kevin Phillips, 35, of Millsboro, was operating a scooter westbound on the shoulder of Route 24, when he struck some tree branches, causing the scooter to lose control.
Troopers say the slick road surface due to rain caused the scooter to slide, and come to a stop in the grass on the north end of the roadway.
According to police, Phillips was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was transported by ambulance to Beebe Healthcare in critical condition.
That investigation is ongoing.
