Choosing the right Halloween costume to stay safe

October 31st is just over a week away, which means procrastinators will be heading to stores for a last minute costume. But Delaware State Police are warning parents and kids, be wise when choosing.
If you’re planning to wear a costume that includes a mask or something that may obstruct your vision, beware of traffic and stay on the sidewalks. They also warn to walk in well lit areas if you can. Since a lot of trick-or-treating occurs late at night after school and work, Corporal Gary Fournier warns that dark colored costumes may not be smart.
Corporal Fournier tells 47 ABC, “Some of these costumes might not be appropriate for those times do to the fact that you can’t see them. When you’re wearing your costume try to use face paint because the face paint doesn’t block or obscure your line of vision with the way that masks do.”
While dressing safety is important, Corporal Fournier says it’s also important to ensure you or your children only approach houses that are well lit and always check your child’s candy before letting them eat it.
