Bicyclist dies following collision in Dover

A bicyclist has died, after they were reportedly hit by a vehicle in Dover on Monday.

The Dover Police Department says just before 6:00 PM, a Jeep Compass was driving on Hazletville Road, near Wyoming Mill Road, while at the same time 63-year-old Bernard Etapale was riding a bicycle in the bike lane.

According to the report, as the Jeep passed Etapale, he drifted out of the bike lane, and into the traffic lane and the path of the Jeep. Police say the Jeep then hit Etapale, who fell from the bike, and into the windshield of the vehicle.

Etapale was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Bystanders reportedly attempted first aid and CPR on Etapale, before Dover Police arrived, and he was transported to Bayhealth Kent General.

Etapale was later air-lifted to Chrisitana Hospital, where he was pronounced dead from head trauma.
