Berlin PD struggling with space, new location on the way

The Berlin Police Department’s has had a policy for seizing guns for decades. They say they don’t have a problem taking them, but have run into issues storing them.
The department has one room inside their headquarters dedicated to holding evidence. Once it’s filled, they’re forced to find alternative locations which cannot be disclosed for security purposes. However, they say they frequently run the risk of exhausting all of their storage space.
Lt. J.D. Lawson says, “We could have a situation tomorrow where we could seize the amount of property that we don’t have room for. At that time an arrangement would be made.”
To help with this issue, the Berlin Police Department will be moving. Officials say by the end of 2016 they will be in their new location on the corner of Decatur and Bay Streets right across from Uncle Willie’s in Berlin.
