Bennett’s Back On Top The Bayside!

The Bennett boys soccer team gutted out a 4-3 win over Easton Monday night in the 2015 Bayside Championship game. The Clippers overcame a deficit twice in the game to come back and win.

The teams would be at a stand still through most the first half, til the Clippers were finally able to break through with under 5 minutes to go in the half. Charlie Kerrigan would drop one back to a trailing John Vanderer, who would fire the perfect, curving shot, past a defender and just out of the reach of a diving keeper near post. The celebration was short lived, as Easton came right back. A free kick from nearly mid field by Ron Rosales would end up in the box, and eventually get knocked home. The teams would go to the break tied, but the Warriors would come out ready to go in the second half. Off a turnover by the Clippers, Brandon Reyes would send a deep pass that Andrew Daley would track down, and beat the keeper far post. Then just minutes after that, Bennett would again tie the game after Will Cooledge sent a ball into the box that Chad Rickards was able to put in. But the back and forth battle wasn’t done just yet. The Warriors would have another free kick from just inside midfield and Carlos Hernandez would put it into the box, where Daley would head it home with under 20 minutes to play. It felt like the Warriors had thrown the knockout punch, but the Clippers weren’t done just yet. Off a free kick of their own, Cooledge would send it into the box where Cermy Oneus would get a head on it, and put it in to tie the game up with 15 minutes to go. Then less than a minute later, Bennett would score the final goal of the game after Cooledge tallied yet another assist, this time sending a cross into the box and finding Ross Foraker for the finish.

Both teams prepare now for the state playoffs which get underway this Friday.
