Before Joaquin, OC preps for another storm

Hurricane Joaquin is threatening the Eastern Seaboard, but officials with the town of Ocean City are taking things one storm at a time.

“We’re right now experiencing a storm system that’s expecting to bring some significant rain and probably some moderate to severe flooding.”, Said Ocean City spokesperson Jessica Waters, “We did experience some flooding in our lower lying areas,”

We’re told the strong storm that hit Delmarva Thursday may flood the town into Friday. To help combat confusion and prepare for potentially dangerous conditions we’re told knowing your zone is key.

If you, your car, or property are located in what OC calls an A or B zone, you may experience flooding up to five feet.

“It’s important to know your zone so you can know the potential threat that you may experience.”Said Waters, “when we’re talking about what you need to do, what you need to prepare for, you know if your in those risky areas.”

For those living in either of those zones, officials suggest tying down outdoor furniture, boats, and other objects susceptible to wind or flooding.

Just as the town urges taking care of your possessions they advocate you take care of yourself as well.

There is no ban on going to the beaches or fishing, so if you do so, proceed with caution.

“I think being on the beach certainly during the evening isn’t going to be the safest thing.”, Waters tells 47 ABC.

The only area of Ocean City that will officially be shut down because of the storm is the Inlet parking lot due to expected flooding.
