47ABC takes part in Walk To End Alzheimer’s

About 70,000 dollars was raised from the Walk To End Alzheimer’s event on Saturday, according to officials.

Aside from the sea of purple support roaming the streets, colorful flowers known as the “Promise Garden Flowers” created a festive and bright morning.

Every flower represented a specific connection to the disease. Blue is in honor of someone currently with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Yellow represented individuals currently supporting or caring for someone with Alzheimer’s. Walkers who supported the cause and vision of a world without Alzheimer’s were asked to pick up an orange flower.

This year, one of our very own at 47 ABC emceed the event and proudly walked the 3-mile route with a purple flower. Purple flowers symbolized those who lost a loved one to the progressive disease.

“About 16 months ago, my dad passed away not from Alzheimer’s per se, but he had Parkinson’s which led to dementia,” Explains 47 ABC’s David Caldwell, “What I did today being able to emcee is nothing compared to the organizers have done here and compared to what the fundraisers have done. They’re leading the effort. It’s a criminally underfunded thing and this is in a small way making a big difference, I think.”

According to Carol Zimmerman, the Outreach and Development Coordinator of the Alzheimer Association on the Eastern Shore, Saturday’s walk will not be the end of the fight for the cure. For more information on how you can donate, click here.
