Wilmington kicks off Hispanic Heritage Month

Wilmington kicked off Hispanic Heritage Month at the Latin American Community Center on Friday. The event was an open house to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and highlight Latinos in Delaware. The day started off with performers followed by speeches given by Delaware government officials about the Latino community.
Delaware Senator Coons says,”I just wanted to renew the focus on Hispanic heritage. How deep and how broad it is within the United States and how significant the ties are between the people of the United States of Hispanic heritage and the rest of the hemisphere.”
Coons and Markell agree that there is still a lot that needs to be accomplished with the Latino community in Delaware, and the next step is addressing it at the Latino Summit in Wilmington on October 22nd.
