Wicomico county administrator discusses student dress codes

In Wicomico County Public Schools, elementary school students cannot wear flip flops. Nine elementary schools in the county are under a pilot called the Consistent Attire Program (CAP) where students wear white, blue, gray, navy or school colored shirts. They also have to wear navy, black, khaki, or gray pants.
Middle and high school students do not have any sort of uniform. However, administrators believe the guidelines their students are under provide consistency, create fewer distractions and illustrate the district’s goals.
Micah Stauffer, the Director of Secondary Education says, “We provide our students with a high quality education. We do that in safe learning environment for students. In addition, we promote the community’s standards and values.”
