Wanted Newark man arrested during Laurel traffic stop

A Newark man, wanted on seven active warrants, was arrested in Laurel on Saturday during a traffic stop.

The Laurel Police Department says on Saturday night, an Officer pulled over a vehicle, after seeing that its registered owner, was wanted on felony warrants out of the New Castle County Police Department, for weapons and assault charges. During the stop, Police say the Officer smelled marijuana, and asked the driver, 27-year-old Michael Allen, to step out and move to the back of the vehicle.

According to the report, Allen started fighting with the Officers, and resisted arrest, until being tased, when Officers were able to get him under control. Both Officers reportedly suffered minor injuries. Police say during a search of the car, they found a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia along with a fully loaded small black revolver. The gun reportedly matched the description of the one listed in the New Castle County PD’s warrants.

Allen was taken back to the Laurel Police Department, where he was charged with possession of deadly weapon during commission of a felony, resisting arrest with force against a police officer, hindering prosecution, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, and fugitive-7 different active warrants from other in state agencies. He is now being held on a $50,000 bond at the Sussex Correctional Institution in Georgetown.
