Police in Dover, have released new information about the Officer involved shooting that happened late last month.

According to Dover Police, 21-year-old Terrance Fletcher, admitted to authorities on Tuesday, that he indeed had a gun at the time of the shooting. Fletcher was shot on Friday, by a Dover Police Officer. On Tuesday, Police revealed new information as to why they responded to the scene. They say they got a tip from a reliable informant, that Fletcher had a gun in the area of South New Street.

Fletcher was reportedly on probation, and when a probation officer approached him Friday, he took off down an alleyway. Police say an Officer waiting in a parking lot at the end of the alleyway, confronted Fletcher as he ran towards him. According to the report, the Officer saw Fletcher had a gun in his hand, and fired, hitting Fletcher in the thigh.

Police say Fletcher then threw the gun he was holding. Investigators later recovered that weapon, which Fletcher later admitted to having in the alleyway. The parking lot the shooting happened in, is adjacent to a daycare. Police say no children were outside during the time of the shooting.

Dover Police say their investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and the Delaware Department Of Justice is also conducting a separate investigation. The Officer involved is currently on administrative leave with pay, pending the outcome of the investigations, which is standard policy.

Fletcher is charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited. He is being held on bond. We’re told he will be in court this week for a preliminary hearing.
