UPDATE: Motorcyclist dies following crash in Lewes

A motorcyclist involved in a crash in Lewes earlier in September, has succumbed to his injuries.

Delaware State Police say on September 12 around 9:55 PM, 39-year-old Russell Pedrick was riding a 1985 Harley Davidson motorcycle on Coastal Highway – Route 1 in the left turn lane to turn on Shady Road, while Marti Keeney, 52 of North Carolina, was driving a 2015 Dodge Journey, in front of the motorcycle preparing to stop at the stop sign to cross over Route 1.

According to the report, the motorcycle didn’t stop, and hit the left back end of the Dodge, causing Pedrick to be ejected from the bike, into the turn lane. Police say Pedrick, who wasn’t wearing a helmet, was rushed to Beebe Healthcare, before being transferred to Christiana Medical Center. He was admitted in critical condition, before dying on Tuesday. Keeney was apparently uninjured in the crash.

DSP’s Collision Reconstruction Unit says they are continuing their investigation into the incident, and that alcohol appears to be a contributing factor on behalf of the motorcyclist. Traffic in the area was impacted for about two and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.

Anyone who may have information about this incident is urged to contact Master Corporal Burns at 302-703-3266, or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333. Tips can also be sent through the Tip Submit website, or by texting 274637 (CRIMES) using the keyword “DSP.”
