The Ocean City Fire Department, and Beach Patrol responded to swimmers in distress along 33rd Street today.

Officials tell 47 ABC that five people were pulled from the ocean on Monday afternoon. It all reportedly happened between 32nd and 33rd Street.

Spokesperson Jessica Waters says two children were in distress, and three adults attempted to enter the water to rescue them, when they also became caught in the rip current.

Lifeguards are not on duty, however Waters says fire and rescue crews and the beach patrol were on the scene within minutes of receiving a report.

One adult male was reportedly airlifted for upper body injuries, three other patients were taken by ambulance to Atlantic General Hospital, while another did not require any medical attention.

Details remain limited at this time, we’ll bring more information as it becomes available. Stay tuned to 47 ABC and 47ABC.com for the latest.

Waters urges beachgoers to stay out of the water in the off-season when lifeguards are not present, saying it is not worth risking your life to swim unsupervised in the ocean.
