SU Men’s Soccer Edges Rutgers-Camden

The Salisbury University men’s soccer team gutted out a 1-0 win over Rutgers-Camden Sunday afternoon. The win improves the Sea Gulls to 3-0 on the year.

The teams were in a battle from the start. It looked like the Raptors had struck first after a cross in the box would find the back of the net after a header, but the goal was waved off and called off sides. Both goalies continued to anchor their defenses as neither team was able to grab a lead. Late in the first half, the Gulls would have a corner kick the the Raptors keeper would grab out of the air. While attempting to drop kick the ball down the field, he would get called for stepping out of the box, resulting in a direct kick for the Gulls. Tyler Andrus would take the kick and send it home near post. SU would take a 1-0 lead into halftime. The teams continued to exchange shots on goal in the second half, but neither were able to find nylon. SU’s keeper Drew Staedeli would post the shutout, finishing with 6 saves.

Salisbury returns to work next Saturday when they take on Virginia Wesleyan in the St. Mary’s City tournament.
