Sheriff’s investigate string of car and garage robberies

Wicomico County Sheriff’s are actively investigating a string of car and garage thefts over the weekend in the neighborhoods adjacent to Old Ocean City Road an Coulbourn Mill Road.

Authorities say most of the garages and cars were left unlocked. However, in one case a car window was smashed because the perpetrator, or perpetrators, saw a purse in plain sight on a seat.

47 ABC spoke with one of the victims today, who said they never believed something like this would happen in their neighborhood.

“We were completely naive and I can say that I will try me best to always lock my vehicle but definitely make sure you lock your vehicles and your doors at all times no matter how safe you think you are,” said Adrienne Naleppa.

The Sheriff’s office says it is pursuing active leads.

Sheriff’s say that usually these car and garage break-ins are done by those looking to get quick money to buy drugs.

To prevent yourself from becoming victim to one of these crimes, authorities say to lock your car and house doors and to not leave any valuables in your vehicle.
