Princess Anne Post Office currently operating out of a truck

The Princess Anne Post Office currently isn’t operating out of an office at all,  instead they’re doing business out of a truck. Or as post office officials refer to it as  “a mobile unit.”

According to Yvette Singh, a communications coordinator for the United States Postal Service (USPS), the mobile unit is being used because the post office is on an emergency suspension.

Officials tell 47 ABC that the post office had been experiencing sewage problems and that when mold was discovered this past Friday the building was shut down. Singh says that USPS and health officials deemed that the mold was an immediate health risk to both workers and customers.

Singh says that currently USPS is in talks with the owner of the building to see if the mold and sewage problems can be fixed. If they can not, Singh says they will use the mobile unit until they can find another permanent or temporary location in Princess Anne.

Currently officials say that there is no timetable for when a decision will be made whether to move on to a new location or stay in their current one.

Tuesday Singh also addressed any concerns that the post office service in Princess Anne would be temporarily shut down while the problem is being addressed.

“I would love to stress to customers that they don’t have to have to worry, that the Princess Anne post office will be there, it is not closing and that the postal service will be there to provide retail services to them,” Singh says.

She also added that the post office does not receive any tax dollars to run their operation, instead is is run off of revenue from their services.

Patrons that 47 ABC spoke to say they commend they post office workers for continuing to work efficiently from the mobile unit. However, they hope it won’t last much longer because it can be a nuisance to use the mobile unit.
