Police: Woman hit by car, driver who hit her were both drunk

State police say a pedestrian who was hit and killed by a car and the driver who hit her were both drunk.

The woman was struck shortly before 11 p.m. Saturday night in Bear while trying to cross Pulaski Highway. Police say she did not use a crosswalk and was hit in the center lane.

The driver of the car that hit her made a U-turn and returned to the scene. The woman died at the scene.

Police say the woman had been drinking. Authorities are working to identify her.

Police say the driver, 33-year-old Terry Berry, was charged with driving under the influence and driving an unregistered vehicle. However, he is not facing charges in the woman’s death. Police say pedestrian error was the primary cause of the crash.
