Police: 1 charged after school bus collision

Police say one driver was charged after a motor vehicle collision involving a school bus occurred on Route 589 at Emory Drive on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Maryland State Police, the rear end of a Worcester County school bus, carrying 38 students from both Berlin Intermediate School and Stephen Decatur Middle School,  was struck after 88-year-old Peggy Howard failed to slow down to avoid a collision.

Police say there was one student who later reported a minor injury and was taken to the hospital by his parent.

Howard was charged with negligent driving and failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision. We’re told a driver re-evaluation request has been submitted.
