Parkside Football Takes Thriller Over WiHi

The Parkside football team took a thriller over river Wi-Hi Friday night 27-23. The win improves the Rams to 3-0, while the loss drops the Indians to 0-3 on the year.
The Indians would control the game most the first half. Jordan Brittingham would take a hand off in from 4 yards out to give the Tribe an early 7-0 lead. Shortly after that, Wi-Hi would boot through a field goal to push their lead to 10-0. Wi-Hi would then cap off their first quarter with a touchdown pass from Jason Patterson to Caleb Welch.
The Rams then started their comeback. Tavon Downing would punch in a short run to cut the deficit to 17-6 at the half. It was all Parkside in the third quarter. Downing would score on another short run, and the Rams would add on the 2 pt conversion to cut the deficit down to just 17-14. On their very next drive, Downing would find the endzone for the 3rd time on the day to give the Rams the lead. After a three and out for the Indians, the Rams would get the ball to start the 4th. On their very first play of the last frame, Trajon Branch would break loose up the left side and take it to the house for a 84 yard touchdown run to open up a 27-17 lead.
But the Indians weren’t done just yet. Patterson would lead his team down the field and Nate Gains would try and score from a couple yards out. He would get hit at the goal line and fumble, but Caron Fontaine would come out from under the pile with the ball for the touchdown. The point after would be blocked to make it a 4 point game. The Rams would try and eat up the clock, but would be forced to punt with 3:15 left. Gains would then break loose for a 45 yard run, taking the ball all the way down to Parkside’s 12 with a little over a minute left. After getting stuffed on their first play, the Rams would get called for a penalty, bringing the ball down to the 3. After getting nothing on 2nd down, the Indians would look to throw on 3rd, but Patterson would get sacked back to the 12. Then facing 4th down, the Tribe would try a reverse to Barry Gaines junior, but Parkside’s defense would stay in contain, and get the stop.
The Rams return to work next Saturday when they host Colonel Richardson, while Parkside hits the road to play at North Caroline on Friday.
