One injured in Cambridge apartment fire, unattended cooking blamed

An apartment fire in Cambridge has been ruled accidental, after injuring one.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says a neighbor reported flames at the two story Church Street apartment building, just after midnight on Monday. Thirty firefighters from six area fire departments responded, and had the two alarm blaze under control in a little over an hour.

The home reportedly did not have smoke alarms. An occupant was rushed from the scene to Dorhcester General Hospital by Dorchester County EMS, for treatment of his burns. Damages are estimated to total $85,000.

Investigators say they found that the flames started in the apartment’s kitchen, by unattended cooking. The blaze has been ruled as accidental. The American Red Cross is reportedly assisting the occupant.
