U.S. Senator Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) announced on Tuesday that under the Affordable Care Act, 14 health centers across Maryland have received federal funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Mikulski’s office says a total of $4,161,916 were awarded to community health centers, which will be used to increase access to health care services as well as for construction and renovation projects.

Community health centers provide care to residents in rural and urban communities, who otherwise may not be able to afford healthcare.

“Community health centers provide an important safety net for the people who need it most,” Senator Mikulski said.

Two counties on Delmarva will receive a portion of the funding. Caroline County received $315,456 that will go to the Choptank Community Health System, Inc., and Wicomico County received $343,270 that will go to Three Lower Counties Community Services, Inc. (T.L.C.).
