Group home employee charged with rape of 17-year-old

Members of the Delaware State Police say they have arrested and charged a woman in connection with the rape of a 17-year-old resident of a Middletown-area group home.

Troopers say Joniequa Macklin, 32, of Lincoln, was allegedly involved in an inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old male resident of the home.

According to the police report, the investigation into the incident began on Friday, September 4, when troopers responded to a report a subject who had reportedly run away from a group home in Middletown.

While responding to the call, police say through interviews they determined that Macklin and the teen reportedly began the relationship in July of this year.

On September 19, troopers say they received information that Macklin and the male resident were possibly together in a home located in the 100 block of Bright Way in Milford.

Troopers say upon receiving the tip, they responded to the residence and were able to take Macklin into custody as she attempted to flee from the home in a vehicle. Police say the male victim also fled the home, however returned a short time later.

Police reportedly arrested and charged Joniequa Macklin with 10 counts of Rape 4th Degree, Interference with Custody, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Reckless Endangering 2nd Degree, Knowingly Abusing a Resident, Sexual Abuse of a Child by a Person of Trust, Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, and Driving While Suspended.

Macklin was reportedly arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to the Delores Baylor Correctional Institution for lack of $86,600.00 secured bail.

According to Police, the 17-year-old, who will not be named due to the sensitivity of the incident, was turned over to the Maryland Division of Social Services in Prince George’s County.
