Ground breaking ceremony for playground upgrades

On Monday, a ground breaking ceremony takes place for the the new upgrades at Ben’s Red Swings playground. The $80,000 expansion project includes a new bathroom. This new project has received donations from local donors, businesses, and families who visit the playground.
Children and parents enjoy spending time at the playground, but one thing they do not like is not having a clean bathroom close by for their family to use.
Howard Cunningham, takes his granddaughters frequently to playground and is happy to see that the new changes are going to take place soon.
“We were here five days this last week and the kids love playing here and love seeing the other kids too,” says Cunningham.
There were not many options for where parents could take their parents to bathrooms. Most people used the nearby porta potties or walk a long distance to use one of the bathrooms in the Salisbury zoo.
Katherine Layton, Ben’s aunt says, “There is not a place to change a baby. It’s hard to go into a porta potty with a toddler so there was a lot of discussion that this was not the ideal situation at the playground.”
The public bathroom will include 2 unisex facilities. Even though the groundbreaking ceremony happened Monday, construction is expected to start in the next two weeks.
Parents are advised that the playground will remain open during construction and fencing will be set up to separate the construction site and keep children safe.
