Fire crews responding to church fire in Cambridge

Fire officials from the Hurlock Volunteer Fire Department say they responded to the Church of the Nazarene on Sandy Hill Road around 6:30 P.M Wednesday.

Responding officials say the blaze started in the ceiling in the fellowship hall portion of the building. Firefighters tell 47 ABC there were people in the building when the blaze originated, but no injuries were reported.

The blaze took about two hours and nearly 60 firefighters to control, according to authorities.

There were reportedly no sprinklers in the building. The cause of the fire has not been made public.

Members of the Office of the Maryland Fire Marshal estimate damages around $600,000.00.
