DSU Drops Heartbreaker To DII Chowan

The Delaware State University football team lost a tough 31-30 ball game Saturday afternoon to DII Chowan. The Loss drops the Hornets to 0-3 on the year.

The Hawks would jump out to a quick lead, after scoring 21 straight point to open the game. DSU would then begin their comeback. Ronald Robinson would come up with an interception and return it 58 yards for a touchdown with just under 5 minutes to go in the half. On Chowan’s ensuing drive, Malik Harris would come up with the INT, and return it all the way down to the 5 yard line. Just a couple plays later, Esayah Obado would find Malik Goldson for a 13 yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 21-14.

The Hornets would then open the 2nd half with a field goal to trim the Hawks lead to just 4, before they would answer with a field goal of their own. Then with a couple minutes to go in the 3rd, they would add a touchdown to open up a 14 point lead headed to the 4th. Jamaal Jackson would then break a 42 yard run for a touchdown score to give DSU a chance down the stretch. The Hornets had to get a stop on 4th and 1 on their own 30 and the defensive line would come up huge, to give their offense a chance with just under 2 minutes to play. The Hornets would march down the field and Gil Rivera would find Kamal Abrams for the score. But unbelievably, the Hornets would shank the point after and still trail Chowan by a point with 30 seconds to play. They would be force to onside kick, but the Hawks would recover it and be able to run out the clock to win the game.

DSU returns to work October 3rd when they host Morgan St.
