Crash in Sussex Co. kills one, sends another to hospital

A weekend crash in Sussex County claims the life of a Millsboro man.

According to police, the single vehicle crash happened around 11:04 p.m. Saturday.

Police say 42 year old Jeffrey Bell Jr., of Millsboro, was driving a 2001 Pontiac Aztec eastbound on Long Neck Road approaching Pot-Nets Road.  Bell reportedly failed to negotiate a turn and traveled off of the roadway where the Pontiac began to slide and rotate counter-clockwise before striking a fence post.  According to authorities, the car quickly began rotating after the initial impact then struck a large tree on the driver’s side where it came to a sudden stop.

Bell, who was not properly restrained, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Delaware State Police.

The passenger in the vehicle, 37 year old Jaime Taylor, of Millsboro, was said to have been properly restrained and transported to Beebe Healthcare where she was admitted in critical condition.

The Delaware State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.

It is not known at this time whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.
