Changes coming to Punkin Chunkin competition

Punkin Chunkin organizers say they have officially reached crunch time. The Delmarva tradition is just about a month away.
It’s been more than a year in the making. The competition was canceled last year. Punkin Chunkin will be on new property this for the 2015 competition at the Dover international speedway.
Officials say the move means less space and a number of event changes. For example, this year the event is two days instead of three.
In addition, instead of focusing on distance, participants will chunk their pumpkins based on accuracy and perform target shots. 47 ABC spoke with Frank Shade, the Director of Media and Promotions of Punkin Chunkin on Tuesday and he says the goal of the competition this year is just to see lots of pumpkins fly.
Shade says, “Dover is going to try and give us a couple of their race cars that we’ll be shooting at. We’ve got a lot of other targets. I think people will find interesting. For the first time we will be able to show people what a ten pound pumpkin can do to a vehicle.”
Punkin Chunkin launches on November 7th and 8th.
