Challenge to end Dover homeless veteran challenge hits 200th day mark

Friday marked the 200th day since the Dover Mayor Robin Christiansen accepted the challenge back in March of this year to end veteran homelessness in Dover.
The Dover Veterans Welcome Home Team set the goal to house at least 50 homeless veterans by December 31st.
Bill Farley, the Vice Chairman of Delaware’s Commission of Veteran Affairs says, “As of today we have housed 36 veterans.”
Bill Farley told 47 ABC that they had another goal which apparently they’ve already met. That goal was to house at least 14 veterans who are chronically homeless, which means they have been homeless more than once in the same year. Farley says it’s not just about getting a roof over their shoulders, but to provide services that can last them a lifetime.
Farley says those services range from, “health wise, counseling wise, and housing wise to make sure they can live a stable life and get the benefits hey earned when they took the oath to uphold and defend the constitution of the United States.”
For those interested in helping the team reach their goal, the next event will be the Veteran’s Stand Down event in Dover on Friday, September 25th.
