Big 2nd Half Lifts Bennett Football Past Washington

The James M. Bennett Clippers opened their season at home Saturday afternoon when a match up against the Washington Jaguars. Bennett was able to overcome a slow start to take the game over in the second half for a 32-12 win. The win improves the Clippers to 1-0, while the loss drops Washington to 0-1.

The Clippers would strike on the very first play of the game after Matt Crysostome took the opening kick off 80 yards the other way for the score. Shortly after that, the Clipper would push their lead to 12-0 after Joey Blake found Crysostome on a quick hitter. The cornerback defending on the play lost his footing, and the one step was all that Matt needed to get the corner and would score from 40 yards out.

The Jags then fought their way back into the game. Quarterback Julius White would lead his team down the field and cap off a drive with a short QB keeper for a score. Then after a Bennett turnover, Washington would again march the field and cap off a drive with another White touchdown run. The teams would head into the locker rooms tied at 12-12.

The second half was a different story. The Clippers would take over from the start. They would score first after Blake would find Joey Geary in the corner of the end one for a score. They’d add another score after that after Ty King would run one in from about 5 yards out. The Clippers would then add a pick six to open the game up, and the defense would do the rest from there.

Bennett returns to action next Friday when they host Queen Anne’s, while Washington returns to work Friday when they host Kent County.
