A Worcester County teacher is now facing charges, after he allegedly sexually abused multiple students.

The Worcester County Bureau of Investigations says William Cathell Jr., 42, of Parksley, is a Spanish/foreign language teacher at Pocomoke Middle School.

Their investigation reportedly began in June, after a complaint was filed with Worcester County Public Schools. Investigators say they interviewed several students, and four victims were identified. At the time of the offense, Police say the victims were between the ages of 12 and 13. We’re told two of the victims were allegedly assaulted by Cathell multiple times.

The alleged sex abuse reportedly started during the 2013-2014 school year, and continued up until this Spring.

Cathell was is now facing multiple charges, including six counts sexual abuse of a minor. He was arrested at his house in Accomack County, Virginia and is currently being held in there, pending extradition.

Officials with Worcester County Public Schools say he has been a teacher since 2005. Authorities say there is a possibility of more victims coming forward.

Cathell was placed on administrative leave when the investigation began, and will remain there pending any legal action.

In a statement sent to 47 ABC, Superintendent of Schools Jerry Wilson said, “The safety and well-being of our students is of vital importance. We take any complaint of this nature very seriously, and as such, we have been in communication with law enforcement as they investigated these circumstances. Our focus at this point is to ensure a safe learning environment and that our students are provided any additional services that they may need, such as counseling.”
