Woodbridge Football Preview

The Woodbridge Blue Raiders take the field this fall with a fairly young squad, adding 23 freshman to the program, while graduating a handful. Among those graduates is Logan Wescott, former starting quarterback and defensive back for the Blue Raiders this past fall. Wescott was a stand-out player and it will be quite tough to replace a player of his magnitude.

However, Woodbridge is up for the challenge and has some upperclassmen stepping up to lead the way. Senior defensive back and wide receiver, Bragg Davis, tasted a bit of success in the playoffs his sophomore year and is eager to get back. While junior defensive end, Shymere Vessels, is looking to help lead his team and the league in sacks like his did in the previous season.

The quarterback position will be a tough spot to fill, but head coach Ed Manlove is confident in his three prospects. In Friday’s scrimmage against Colonel Richardson, it looked like Antwon Holden could potentially snag the starting position, but only time will tell.

The Blue Raiders are low in depth, but make up for the lack of depth with their conditioning and believe a key to success this season will be staying healthy.
