Why Salisbury’s next election will make history

The deadline has come and gone to register to run for office in Salisbury’s upcoming city election, which city officials say will be historic for a few reasons.
First, the election for mayor and city council will take place in the fall instead of the spring.
Second, according to officials this year’s election will be the first with more than one districts. There are now five districts in the city, with districts one and two being minority districts.
The redistricting officials say, was adopted by council three years ago to accurately represent the city’s changing demographics.
This year’s election will also be historic because there will be no primary election, instead every voter in every district can cast two votes on November 3, one for mayor and one for the council seat in their district.
