Verizon employee rallies continue in Salisbury

Local Verizon employees continue to rally against circumstances which have left them employed but in limbo because they don’t have contracts right now.
This was the scene earlier Thursday evening in Salisbury as members of the communications workers of America demonstrated outside of the Verizon building on Mount Hermon Road.
For two-hours, they protested against expired union contracts which CWA workers have opted to work through.
We’re told that without a contract the workers feel that their future with the company is uncertain.
In a response to the protest Verizon officials say, “We respect the rights of our employees to hold rallies, but we truly believe the best way to achieve a new contract is not at a (street) rally, but through serious and meaningful negotiations. Verizon is committed to reaching a contract that’s fair to our employees, our customers and positions our landline unit on a path towards success.
“We’ve had discussions with union leaders from both the CWA and IBEW this week and we stand ready to meet with them again.”
