UPDATE: UMES bomb threat suspect to remain in custody

A Salisbury man accused of making a bomb threat against the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in July, will remain in custody.

Maximino Melendez, 26, was ordered to be continued to be held at the Somerset County Detention Center without bond on Friday.

Melendez was charged with two counts each of making a threat of arson and a false statement of destructive device.

Last month, a Somerset County emergency services dispatcher received two phone calls asserting that an explosive device was in or around UMES’s new engineering building.

No explosive devices were found.
