UPDATE: One dead in Route 1 crash

Delaware State Police say one man is dead and two others were hurt following a single-vehicle crash on Bay Road, south of Cicada Lane.

Police say the crash happened around 5:40 a.m. Sunday, when 20-year-old Mauricio Borda was traveling with two other passengers southbound on Route 1.

According to police, Borda’s car drifted off the east side of the road and into the center median when Borda then overcorrected, crossing both southbound lanes and struck a curb. Police reports show the vehicle continued in a southwesterly direction where it struck a small tree, a utility pole, and a large tree causing the car to spin and roll over before coming to a stop.

23-year-old Edgar Molina, a passenger in the car, was apparently not properly restrained and transported to Milford Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Borda and 19-year-old Alejandra Uribe, another passenger, were also transported to Milford Memorial Hospital. Police tell 47 ABC they were treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing their investigation into this incident.

Police say charges may be forthcoming; however, alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
