A University of Delaware football player is facing charges, after he apparently assaulted another player in the locker room.

University of Delaware Police say on Thursday evening around 6:05 PM, Jerel Harrison hit another football player with a helmet, in the football locker room. The unnamed player was apparently taken to Christiana Hospital, for treatment, before being released.

Harrison was arrested, charged with first degree assault, and is being held at Howard Young Correctional Facility on a $25,000 cash bail. He was also apparently given a no contact order with the victim, and the University, along with a trespass warning for the campus.

According to UD, Harrison is a senior, from Richmond, Virginia, who plays wide receiver for the football team.

University students who are arrested are apparently immediately referred to the Office of Student Conduct. The University says they will not be commenting on the alleged incident, due to the on-going investigation.
