Smyrna teen arrested for impersonating officer

A 17-year-old Smyrna teenager was arrested after he attempted to pull a female victim over with his car, according to Delaware State Police.
We’re told the incident happened shortly after midnight Monday as a 24-year-old woman was traveling northbound on Bayside Drive, just north of North Little Creek Road. Police say she passed a car, which later activated some strobe lights that were placed in the grill and windshield.
Because she reportedly thought the car, identified as a tan Chevrolet Impala driven by a 17-year-old male, was driven by an officer, police say she pulled to the shoulder but the car apparently passed her. As she continued northbound, we’re told saw the car once again on the shoulder with its light out. When she passed by, it again pulled out behind her and activated the strobe lights.
Police say she did not pull over and after the car passed her once again, she called 911 to report the incident.
The car was soon pulled over by Smyrna Police Department, just east of Big Oak Road on Smyrna-Leipsic Road.
The 17-year-old was arrested and later charged with Criminal Impersonation of a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct, Driving without a Valid License, Driving in a No Passing Zone, and Unauthorized Flashing Lights. He was arraigned and has since been released on a $1,325.00 unsecured bond.
If anyone has any has had similar incidents involving the tan Chevrolet Impala, they are asked to contact Trooper S. Douglas from Troop 9 at 302-378-5749.
