Senator Eckardt kicks off Tour de Mid-Shore

Maryland State Senator Addie Eckardt biked sixty- seven miles Thursday to kick off her annual ride.
She calls her journey the “Tour de Mid-Shore.” It started four years ago as a pre-election fundraising effort, but it’s now a tradition that no longer serves that purpose.
Senator Eckardt says, “We use this not as a fundraiser for me. I use it to invite people from all different vantage points who want to cycle, bike, and have an appreciation for the area.”
Senator Eckardt’s tour goes on for four days throughout her legislative district which is 37.
She goes on, “We’re always concerned about economic development, and eco-tourism, and agri-business in this district.”
Senator Eckardt believes this ride allows her to get up close and personal with those issues and see what’s working. For example, she and her team visited the Dri- Dock Recovery and Wellness Center in Cambridge.
She continues, “It’s good to see where that site is, how it has developed, how it’s meeting the needs of the citizens.”
Thursday’s ride took her through Wicomico County where she got to stop by Royal Oak, a local Veterans support group that trains assistance dogs.
Senator Eckardt says, “I’ve been over there to see them and that was because I knew it was on a bike path.”
The biking trek was wrapped up Thursday at the Green Hill Country Club. It’s a local business that Senator Eckardt says has made a major investment in the area, making it an economic asset.
She goes on, “Some people may say where’s Green Hill? Well Green Hill is a golf and yacht club right here in Wicomico County. You usually don’t hear about.”
That’s what Eckardt says the ride is all about; finding hidden gems, whether places or people, and appreciating them.
Senator Eckardt still has three days left on her “Tour de Mid-Shore.” She and her team will bike Caroline County on Friday.
She says anyone is welcome to join her. For more information call 410-228-8048 or email raeckardt@comcast.net.
