Sen. Cardin remembers civil rights pioneer Julian Bond

Civil rights activist and pioneer Julian Bond passed away Saturday night in Florida at age 75.

Bond, a native Tennessean, fought for equal rights for African-Americans in the 1960’s before founding the SLPC in the 1970’s.

His actions went a long way inspiring many, such as U.S. Senator Ben Cardin (D) – MD.

Senator Cardin said the following in a statement:

“Julian Bond embodied the best ideals of the American spirit. Mr. Bond dedicated his life to promoting equality and justice for all Americans.” And “Julian Bond inspired me in public service and in the defense of civil liberties, and I take solace in knowing he inspired countless others to work towards a brighter future. I send my most sincere condolences to the Bond family and thank them for sharing such a wonderful man with the American people.”

Bond is survived by his wife and five children.
