Salisbury recognized as one the best for “clean water”

The city of Salisbury apparently has some of the best water around according to state judges.
After winning the Toasting of the Tap earlier this year, which ranks the state’s best tasting tap water, Salisbury has now been invited to participate in the Healthy Waters Round Table.
The series of workshops will focus on sharing solutions to identify low cost strategies and resources to improve the quality and health of local rivers and streams.
Mayor Jim Ireton said the fact that Salisbury was even invited to participate is a testament to how hard the city has worked for healthier water.
Although Ireton announced Monday he won’t be running for re-election, he says the city’s focus on improving water conditions won’t be lost.
“The council president (Jake Day) who has to be considered the front runner to be the next mayor of Salisbury is absolutely behind every one of these things, every one of these initiatives and as we flip-flop and I go to the council and he goes to the mayors office we’ll have each others backs on these issues and continue to be progressive leaders in the areas of water quality,” Ireton said.
Just last month the city’s Storm Water Utility went into effect. The utilities revenues Ireton says, will be used to continue to improve the city’s water quality and prevent pollutants from entering local water.
